What time are you open?

Equilibrium Health is open 6 days a week Monday to Saturday 09:00 - 18:00 & we open at 8:00 on Tuesday & Thursday for your convenience. 

Our appointment times commence on the hour and are approximately 50 minutes in duration. Unfortunately we are closed on public holidays.

Do I need a referral?

No you do not need a referral to access our services. However, for your sessions to be bulk billed under with Medicare if you are seeing a health professional registered with Medicare. You will need a a referral letter from your GP stating that you can access the services of the said practitioner of your choosing. With the Better Access scheme, you will need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP or a CDM (Chronic Disease Management Plan) or a WorkCover or ATAPS referral - Please talk to our friendly reception staff about this & we will gladly inform you of the process. 

Do you bulk bill? 

Yes, we bulk bill individual and group therapy sessions if you have a concession card or if your referring GP has requested us to do so. 

How many sessions do I get for free?

Depending upon your referral type you may access up to 10 individual sessions & 10 group sessions per calendar year. Initial referrals are for 6 individual and 6 group sessions. A review of your Mental Health Care Plan will be completed by your GP after your 6th session. Your GP will determine if you are eligible to access further sessions.

What if I don’t have a mental health care plan?

Patients who do not have a mental health care plan can still access our services. The rate for a standard consultation (51 minutes) is $93.50 (medicare amount + GST). Fees are payable by our onsite EFTPOS terminal. 

Can I claim from my private health fund?

Yes, we have HICAPS onsite offering you instant rebate allocated to your nominated account. Please enquire with your health fund to determine your rebate for services. Most Health Funds include our services in their Extra’s cover.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel or change an appointment please give us at least 24 hours’ notice.  

How often & how many sessions do I need to attend?

During your initial session, your practitioner will discuss your individual treatment plan according to your specific needs & circumstances, each individual presentation is different & treatment goals   vary depending on your specific needs.

Is my treatment confidential?

The content of your sessions is confidential & will not be released without your written consent. If you wish personal information to be disclosed to another person, health professional or organisation, you must provide written & signed authority to release information. The only time a practitioner may release information is if the information is subpoenaed by court, failure to disclose the information would place you or another person at risk, or they are required to report the abuse of a child.

My partner/friend/relative sees a psychologist. Can I book an appointment or talk to the psychologist?

Due to client confidentiality laws, we cannot discuss a clients care & treatment unless the client has given their authority allowing us to do so. If you wish to speak with the treating psychologist, you must first speak with the client & discuss your request with them.

Do you have couples counselling?

Yes, couples counselling can be accessed by married, de-facto or same sex couples who are looking to improve their relationship, would like help to develop communication skills, suffering intimacy issues or who are going through separation. Please refer to the psychologist profile page to view our psychologists who treat couples.

Do we attend the first session together?

We usually recommend that you meet with the psychologist together to identify your primary goals. Your psychologist may then recommend you have individual sessions before continuing with your next session as a couple.

Can my partner attend if they don’t have a referral?

Yes, however if you both decide to access individual session as well as couples sessions, then your partner will need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from their GP.

Is there a GAP payment for couples counselling?

If you have a MHCP, there is a gap payment of $55 inc. GST for all couples sessions.
